Tunable Drop Splashing on Magnetoactive Elastomers

چکیده

The significant effect of an external dc magnetic field on the splashing behavior ethanol drops impacting unstructured (flat) surface soft magnetoactive elastomers (MAEs) is reported. Weber number corresponding to transition between deposition and regime reduced by ?20% in a moderate ?300 mT. Alongside this effect, two-fold increase initial deceleration ejection sheet observed for softest sample. main underlying mechanism phenomena believed be magnetic-field-induced stiffening MAEs. Further possible mechanisms are magnetically induced changes roughness plasticity (magnetic shape memory effect). potential application areas regulable wetting magneto-responsive surfaces controlling drop splashing.
